Frank Dermody was appointed to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board in February 2021 by House Democratic Leader Joanna McClinton. Prior to joining the Board, Frank was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives representing the 33rd district from 1991 until 2020 including 10 years as the House Democratic Leader. Additionally, during his time in the General Assembly, Frank served as chairman of the Allegheny County's House Democratic delegation, as caucus secretary, and as Majority Whip.

After graduating from Abington Heights High School, Frank received a scholarship to play football at Columbia University in New York City. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Columbia, then worked in sales for two different companies in New York for five years while saving money for law school. He received his Juris Doctor from Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington in 1982. He then returned to Pennsylvania, working as an assistant public defender in Harrisburg, then serving as assistant district attorney in Allegheny County.

During his tenure in the district attorney's office, he was appointed by Governor Bob Casey in 1989 to fill an unexpired term as district justice for Oakmont and Verona, which he did for seven months. Dermody also worked as a legal advisor to Allegheny County's district justices, an instructor at the Community College of Allegheny County, and a faculty member of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute for Continuing Legal Education.

Frank resides in Oakmont with his wife, Debra, who was his classmate in law school. They have two children, Frank and Cara.
