HARRISBURG, PA:  The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported today that the combined total revenue generated from all forms of gaming along with fantasy contests during October 2022 was $450,238,963, an increase of 5.71% compared to revenue generated in October 2021.

Sources of gaming revenue regulated by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board include slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests and video gaming terminals (VGTs). The Board has posted separate reports for these types of gaming on its website, https://gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov/. 

The following chart compiles all revenue generated in October 2022 by casinos along with fantasy contests and video gaming terminals operated by other vendors and includes a comparison to total revenue generated last October.

Total tax revenue generated collectively through all forms of gaming and fantasy contests was $183,737,305 during October 2022.

October Revenue by Game Type

The Board is also providing a synopsis of revenue year-over-year by types of games: 

Retail Slot Machine Revenue

October’s gross revenue from slot machines was $199,049,045 a 2.11% decrease in revenue when compared to the $203,344,187 generated in October 2021.

The number of slot machines in operation in October 2022 was 25,497 compared to 25,717 at the casinos in October 2021.

Slot machine revenue for each of the casinos, with the percentage change reflected over the previous year, is as follows.

Tax revenue from the play of slots machines in October 2022 was $101,294,196*.

Retail Table Games Revenue

Table games revenue for October 2022 was $79,848,316, a decrease of 10.36% from October 2021 when revenue was $89,078,876.

Table games revenue for each of the casinos, with the percentage change reflected over the previous year, is as follows.

Total tax revenue from table games play during October 2022 was $12,893,512*.

Internet Casino-Type Gaming (iGaming) Revenue

Casino games offered online generated gross revenue of $124,507,915 during October 2022 compared to $102,891,983 in October 2021, an increase of 21.01%. October’s total was the highest monthly amount of revenue to date eclipsing the $118,118,408 amount in March 2022.

A breakdown of revenue of casino games offered online is as follows:

Tax revenue generated from internet gaming play during October 2022 was also the highest monthly amount to date at $52,703,923*.

Sports Wagering Revenue

October 2022 total sports wagering handle was $797,124,732, a 2.69% increase over the October 2021 total of $776,277,954. At the same time, the taxable revenue figure for October 2022 was $40,514,020 compared to $23,532,816 in October 2021, an increase of 72.16%.

Tax revenue generated from sports wagering during October 2022 was $14,585,047*.

Video Gaming Terminals

Total adjusted revenue for October 2022 for video gaming terminals (VGTs) was $3,547,774 or 5.16% higher than October 2021 when revenue was $3,373,559. By the close of October 2022, VGT Terminal Operators were operating the maximum permitted five machines at all 67 qualified truck stop establishments.

Truck Stop VGT adjusted revenue for each of the terminal operators during October 2022 is as follows:

Tax revenue collected from the play of VGTs in October 2022 was $1,844,842*.

Fantasy Contests

Fantasy Contests revenue was $2,771,894 in October 2022, a decrease of -24.99% over October 2021, when revenue was $3,695,341.

Fantasy Contests adjusted revenue for each of the operators which had revenue for October 2022 and October 2021 are displayed in the following table:

Tax revenue collected from the play of Fantasy Contests in October 2022 was $415,784*.

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of gambling involving 16 land-based casinos, online casino games, retail and online sports wagering, and Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) at qualified truck stops, along with the regulation of online fantasy sports contests.
