Gaming Control Board Reports Revenue in April 2024

HARRISBURG, PA: The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reported today that the combined total revenue generated from all forms of gaming, along with fantasy contests, during April 2024 was $504,683,409, an increase of 5.87% compared to revenue generated in April 2023.

 

Sources of gaming revenue regulated by the PGCB include slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests and video gaming terminals (VGTs). The PGCB has posted separate reports for these types of gaming on its website, https://gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov/.  

 

Total tax revenue generated collectively through all forms of gaming and fantasy contests was $209,936,155* during April 2024.

 

The following chart compiles all revenue generated in April 2024 by casinos, along with fantasy contests and VGTs operated by other vendors and includes a comparison to total revenue generated in April 2023.

Slot Machine Revenue

 

This April’s revenue from the play of retail slot machines was $205,485,828, a 3.35% decrease in revenue when compared to the $213,012,826 generated in April 2023. 

 

The number of slot machines in operation in April 2024 was 24,890 compared to 25,555 at the casinos in April 2023.

Sports Wagering Revenue

 

April 2024, total sports wagering handle was $646,061,065 or 12.92% above the April 2023 total of $572,152,803. 

 

At the same time, the taxable revenue figure for April 2024 was $42,412,510, or 14.52% higher when compared to April 2023, when taxable revenue was $37,036,123.

Tax revenue generated from sports wagering during April 2024 was $15,268,504*.

 

Video Gaming Terminals

 

Total adjusted revenue for April 2024 for video gaming terminals (VGTs) was $3,648,270, or 3.22% higher than April 2023 when revenue was $3,534,347. By the end of April 2024, all VGT Operators offered the maximum permitted five machines at 74 qualified truck stop establishments, compared to five machines at 68 establishments at this time last year.

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of gambling involving 17 land-based casinos, online casino games, retail and online sports wagering, and Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) at qualified truck stops, along with the regulation of online fantasy sports contests.

 

The land-based casino industry in Pennsylvania consists of six racetrack (Category 1) casinos, five stand-alone (Category 2) casinos, two resort (Category 3) casinos and four mini-casinos (Category 4).  A significant job generator in the Commonwealth, casinos and the other types of Board-regulated gaming generated $2.35 billion in tax revenue in 2023.

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board

The Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of gambling involving 16 land-based casinos, online casino games, retail and online sports wagering, and Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) at qualified truck stops, along with the regulation of online fantasy sports contests.


The land-based casino industry in Pennsylvania consists of six racetrack (Category 1) casinos, five stand-alone (Category 2) casinos, two resort (Category 3) casinos and three mini-casinos (Category 4).
