Revenue for retail table games, I-Gaming and fantasy contests reach all-time monthly highs
HARRISBURG, PA: Figures released today by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board show total gaming and fantasy contests revenue generated in the Commonwealth during October 2021 was $425,916,762 which represents an increase of 33% compared to revenue generated in October 2020. It also eclipsed the all-time monthly revenue high set in July of this year.
Sources of gaming revenue regulated by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board include slot machines, table games, internet gaming, retail and internet sports wagering, fantasy contests and video gaming terminals (VGTs). The Board has posted separate reports for these types of gaming on its website, https://gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov/.
The following chart compiles all revenue generated in October 2021 by casinos along with fantasy contests and video gaming terminals operated by other vendors, and includes a comparison to total revenue generated last October:

October’s gross revenue from slot machines at the casinos was $203,344,187, a 31% increase in revenue when compared to the $154,725,850 generated in October 2020.
The number of slot machines in operation for October 2021 was 25,717 compared to 16,611 machines in October 2020.

Sports Wagering Revenue
Sports wagering handle during October 2021 was $776,277,954 compared to October 2020 when handle was $525,802,524. The handle for this month was the single highest to date eclipsing the total in January 2021 of $615,294,827.
At the same time, the taxable sports wagering revenue figure for October 2021 was $23,532,816 or 36% lower than October 2020 taxable revenue of $36,776,926.

Total adjusted revenue for October for video gaming terminals (VGTs) was $3,373,559 or 40% higher than October 2020. By the close of October four VGT Terminal Operators were operating five machines at each of 59 truck stop establishments.

Fantasy Contests revenue was $3,695,341 in October 2021, an increase of 15% over October of last year when revenue was $3,203,005. The October revenue figure was also the highest to date eclipsing the December 2019 total of $3,435,621.

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of gambling at 15 land-based casinos, online casino games, retail and online sports wagering, and Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) at qualified truck stops, along with the regulation of online fantasy sports contests.
The land-based casino industry in Pennsylvania consists of six racetrack (Category 1) casinos, five stand-alone (Category 2) casinos, two resort (Category 3) casinos and two mini-casinos (Category 4). Casino expansion will continue over the next couple of years with the anticipated openings of up to three additional Category 4 casinos.
