HARRISBURG, PA: Figures released today by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board show total gaming and fantasy contests revenue generated in the Commonwealth during November 2021 was a record $432,493,349 which represents an increase of 52% compared to revenue generated in November 2020. 

The total revenue achieved this month also surpassed the previous monthly high just achieved in October 2021 of $425,916,762.

Sources of gaming revenue regulated by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board include slot machines, table games, internet gaming, retail and internet sports wagering, fantasy contests and video gaming terminals (VGTs). The Board has posted separate reports for these types of gaming on its website, https://gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov/. 

The following chart compiles all revenue generated in November 2021 by casinos along with fantasy contests and video gaming terminals operated by other vendors, and includes a comparison to total revenue generated last November:

Total tax revenue generated collectively through all forms of gaming and fantasy contests was $171,876,183 during November 2021.

November Revenue by Game Type

The Board is also providing a synopsis of revenue year-over-year by types of games: 

Slot Machine Revenue

November’s gross revenue from slot machines at the casinos was $185,481,243, a 43% increase in revenue when compared to the $129,530,805 generated in November 2020.

Slot machine revenue for each of the casinos, with the percentage change reflected over the previous year, is as follows:

² Rivers Casino Philadelphia was close November 20-30, 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions

Tax revenue from the play of slots machines in November of this year was $94,314,279*.

Table Games Revenue

Table games revenue for November 2021 was $82,910,650, an increase of 58.42% over November of last year when revenue was $52,336,318.

Table games revenue for each of the casinos, with the percentage change reflected over the previous year, is as follows:

Total tax revenue from table games play during November was $13,367,007*.

Internet Casino-Type Gaming Revenue

Casino games offered online generated gross revenue of $93,889,261 during November 2021 an increase of 57.07% compared to November 2020 when revenue was $59,775,505.

A breakdown of revenue of casino games offered online is as follows:

Tax revenue generated from internet gaming play during November was $39,114,034*.

Sports Wagering Revenue

Sports wagering handle during November 2021 was $761,574,597 compared to November 2020 when the handle was $491,910,713.

At the same time, the taxable sports wagering revenue figure for November 2021 of $63,668,655 represented a record high and was 70% above the previous high month achieved last November when taxable revenue was $37,350,246.

Tax revenue generated from sports wagering during November was $22,920,716*.

Video Gaming Terminals

Total adjusted revenue for November for video gaming terminals (VGTs) was $3,185,451 or 41% higher than November 2020. By the close of November four VGT Terminal Operators were operating five machines at each of 59 truck stop establishments.

Truck Stop VGT adjusted revenue for each of the terminal operators during November is as follows:

¹ operated VGTs in 25 establishments during November
² operated VGTs in 12 establishments during November
³ operates VGTs in 12 establishments during November
⁴ operates VGTs in 10 establishments during November

Tax revenue collected from the play of VGTs in November was $1,656,434*.

Fantasy Contests

Fantasy Contests revenue was $3,358,090 in November 2021, an increase of 11% over November of last year when revenue was $3,015,062.

Fantasy Contests adjusted revenue for each of the operators which had revenue for November 2021 and November 2020 are displayed in the following table:

Tax revenue collected from the play of Fantasy Contests in November of this year was $503,713*.

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of gambling at 15 land-based casinos, online casino games, retail and online sports wagering, and Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) at qualified truck stops, along with the regulation of online fantasy sports contests.

The land-based casino industry in Pennsylvania consists of six racetrack (Category 1) casinos, five stand-alone (Category 2) casinos, two resort (Category 3) casinos and two mini-casinos (Category 4).  Casino expansion will continue over the next couple of years with the anticipated openings of up to three additional Category 4 casinos. A significant job generator in the Commonwealth, casinos and the other types of Board-regulated gaming is expected to generate over $1.8 billion in tax revenue during the 2021/2022 State Fiscal Year.
