Record Revenue for iGaming Highlights PA Gaming Control Board’s December Revenue Report

HARRISBURG, PA: The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (“PGCB”) reported today that an all-time monthly high for iGaming revenue was achieved in December.

 

The amount of revenue in December from iGaming totaled $223,652,312. The previous high for iGaming revenue in a month was $200,490,599 set in the previous month of November 2024.

 

December revenue from gaming regulated by the PGCB totaled $533,087,197, just two-tenths of one percent below revenue generated last December. The resulting tax revenue during December of this year was $223,682,037*.  Types of gaming regulated by the agency are slot machines and table games in casinos, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests, and video gaming terminals (“VGTs”),

The following chart compiles all revenue generated in December 2024 by casinos, along with fantasy contests and VGTs operated by other vendors and includes a comparison to total revenue generated in December 2023.

December’s revenue from the play of retail slot machines was $202,073,713, a 2.74% decrease in revenue when compared to the $207,776,416 generated in December 2023. 

 

The number of slot machines in operation in December 2024 was 24,448 compared to 24,990 at the casinos in December 2023.

Internet Casino-Type Gaming (iGaming) Revenue

 

Casino games offered online generated a record amount of monthly gross revenue totaling $223,652,312 during December 2024. Compared to revenue of $165,110,845 in December 2023, this represents an increase of 35.46%.

December 2024 total sports wagering handle was $893,371,609, 3.48% below the December 2023 total of $925,570,368. 

 

The taxable revenue figure for December 2024 was $21,869,329, or 69.89% lower when compared to December 2023, when taxable revenue was $72,506,446.

Tax revenue generated from sports wagering during December 2024 was $7,872,958*.

 

Video Gaming Terminals

 

Total adjusted revenue for December 2024 for video gaming terminals (VGTs) was $3,404,329, 0.87% lower than December 2023 when revenue was $3,434,352. By the end of December 2024, all VGT Operators offered the maximum permitted five machines at each of the 74 qualified truck stop establishments, compared to five machines at each of the 71 establishments at this time last year.

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of gambling involving 17 land-based casinos, online casino games, retail and online sports wagering, and Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) at qualified truck stops, along with the regulation of online fantasy sports contests.


The land-based casino industry in Pennsylvania consists of six racetrack (Category 1) casinos, five stand-alone (Category 2) casinos, two resort (Category 3) casinos and four mini-casinos (Category 4). A significant job generator in the Commonwealth, casinos and the other types of Board-regulated gaming generated $2.54 billion in tax revenue in Fiscal Year 2023/24.
