HARRISBURG, PA:  The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board the play of slot machines at casinos during January. fell 8.7% in January of this year to $171,786,456 compared to the $188,244,599 in gross revenue generated in January 2013. 

“It is likely that the amount of revenue generated was negatively impacted by the significant amounts of snow and extreme cold weather that affected all parts of Pennsylvania in January and has continued into February,” says Gaming Control Board Executive Director Kevin O’Toole.

Tax revenue in January of this year was $91,744,988. 

In a comparison of just the 11 casinos operating in January 2014 that were also open for the full month of January 2013, revenue fell  by 9.6%.

Gross revenue for each of the casinos operating in January 2014 is as follows, with the percentage change reflected for those casinos that were operating in January of both years. 

The average number of slot machines operating throughout Pennsylvania, at the 12 casinos, was 26,606 in January 2014 compared to 26,552 at the 11 casinos in January 2013.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board was established in 2004 with the passage of Act 71, also known as the Race Horse Development and Gaming Act.
